I'm going to do one reply a day until you get revealed (probably not because I'd rather come up with something worthwhile to say then just spam).
I went back and reread the introduction (I still need a few days to heal before I attempt rereading this entire thing again) and loved how it can serve both as a prologue and as an epilogue. A point of reflection and the breaking of the fourth wall was a strong way to start off the fic as well as a retrospective mediation as to the fragility and malleability of memories. Truth be told, once upon a time I attempted a hand at something like this (back in my exo days) but made it only the second game because it was now or never attempt - one day these games will be taken for granted and mutants will be nothing more than entertainment pieces... what becomes of them then?
I digress.
But reading parts of the beginning made more sense after finishing the entire fic, like the curator letter for example. And upon mulling it over for two nights I think I pinpointed why it was so impactful towards the ending. Correct me if I'm wrong but not once do we dwell in Hoseok's head, as if because of his closed off emotions... so too are we closed off from his brain and process of thoughts. A true enigma. Seokjin takes in everyone's emotions, identifies humans and tries to separate their fluxes from his own, differentiate reality from delusion and in a way the entire switching of povs reflects that (I'm probably reading too deep but I always read too deep). What hurt the most was the second to last part. As a reader we were always privy to Seokjin's thoughts and still were till the very end but there was always this sense of ... I'm losing my words to phrase it. But the fact that he had killed Taehyung and we didn't even know till the very end seemed as if he was slipping from us. In a way his emotions were closed off? No fear, a sense of tranquility as we spiralled towards the end (now who is the monster here? Does it matter which one won? Isn't the ending going to be the same?)
There’s no one left to cloud his mind and contaminate his emotions, the only person Seokjin can feel now is himself, desperate to survive at all costs. Hoseok can’t even feel that much.
And who can we say is the winner?
Last year may have been the best show down between bulletproof boy scouts but this time its a fight of one who can feel too much and one who can manipulate the rest i just-- am still emotional over all of this. Once again, probably reading too much into things but just had to share(?) I had so much to share when I first read through it so-- distance gives a more coherent mind to appreciate without the taint of emotions (or at least I hope so).
Once again, thank you so much. I really am lucky to have you as the writer for my terrible prompts ; ^ ;
